Our story

Established in 1959 as Imperial Ground, the club later became Agrani Club and adopted its present name in 1970. Founders included Pradip Das, Giarsi Lal Gupta, Milan Roy and Bimal Mondal.

Sport and Kali Puja shaped its early years. Today, Chetla Agrani Club brings together cultural celebrations, sporting activities, fitness, a swimming pool and a guest house. Durga Puja has been its principal festival since 2007.

The full history
  1. 1959

    The beginning

    Established as Imperial Ground, the club later adopted the name Agrani Club.

  2. 1970

    Chetla Agrani Club

    The club took its present name and developed the Agrani Football Tournament.

  3. 1990

    A clubhouse and growing celebrations

    A temporary club room was built, while themed Kali Puja celebrations expanded.

  4. 2006

    Developing the facilities

    The official history records donation of the property to Kolkata Municipal Corporation and infrastructure improvements.

  5. 2007

    Durga Puja takes centre stage

    Durga Puja became the club’s principal festival.

Facilities

A swimming pool for exercise and recreation, and a guest house with Wi-Fi, room service and parking for visiting family and friends.

Puja & culture

Kali Puja grew with the club from its first years. Since 2007 Durga Puja has been its principal festival, with themed pandals, music, theatre and bhog.
